How Role-Plays Make a Difference

Many people study English for years but still feel nervous when speaking. Why? Because reading and listening are not the same as doing. That’s why in my classes, we practice with real-life role-plays — simple, useful conversations you can actually use.

何年も英語を勉強しているのに、話すとなると緊張してしまう人は多いです。なぜでしょう？それは、「読む・聞く」と「話す」は別のスキルだからです。私のクラスでは、実際に使える英語を身につけるために、**ロールプレイ**をたくさん取り入れています。

What Is a Role-Play?

A role-play is when we act out a real-life situation in English. For example, ordering at a restaurant, asking for help in a store, or talking to a neighbor. You don’t need to memorize lines — just try, make mistakes, and have fun.

ロールプレイとは、日常の場面を英語で**実際に演じてみる練習方法**です。たとえば、レストランで注文する、店員さんに質問する、近所の人と話す…など。セリフを覚える必要はありません。間違っても大丈夫！気軽に試してみましょう。

Why Is It So Effective?

Role-plays help you:

• Use the words you’ve learned

• Practice pronunciation and rhythm

• Gain confidence speaking out loud

• Prepare for real situationsAnd because it feels like a game, it's fun!

Examples from My Class

Here are some role-plays we’ve done recently:

• Taking a friend to a local Osaka restaurant

• Shopping at a department store

• Asking for directions at Suita Station

• Talking about your hobbies at a coffee shop
